Kim Dacres è un'artista e insegnante giamaicana di prima generazione. Ha conseguito la laurea presso il Williams College come doppio studio d'arte e scienze politiche e una minoranza in studi africani. Ha conseguito il Master in Educazione (Insegnare l'inglese come seconda lingua K-12) dal Lehman College presso la City University di New York. Kim ha lavorato per 10 dieci anni come educatrice nelle scuole pubbliche e charter di New York City prima di cambiare la sua carriera ad artista a tempo pieno. Kim si avvicina al suo lavoro con entusiasmo per la vita e responsabilità per le storie della gente comune di colore.

Nel 2018 Kim ha fatto la sua prima installazione artistica pubblica con durata di un anno, Peaceful Perch, nel Marcus Garvey Park di Harlem. Nel 2019 ha completato la sua prima mostra personale, Swerve Team Meeting, come artista emergente alla A.I.R. galleria di New York City. Nell'autunno del 2020 Kim inizierà una sua collaborazione con il programma AIM del Bronx Museum of the Arts.

Vive e pratica il suo lavoro in studio ad Harlem.

Kim Dacres is a first-generation Jamaican American artist and teacher. She received her Bachelor's degree from Williams College as a dual major Art Studio and Political Science, and a minor in Africana Studies. She received her Masters in Education (Teaching English as Second Language K-12) from Lehman College at the City University of New York. Kim worked for 10 ten years as an educator in New York City public and charter schools prior to transitioning her career to being a full time artist. Kim approaches her work with enthusiasm for life and accountability for the stories of everyday people of color.

In 2018 Kim had her first yearlong public art installation, Peaceful Perch, in Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park. In 2019 completed her first solo exhibition, Swerve Team Meeting, as an emerging artist fellow at the A.I.R. gallery in New York City. In the fall of 2020 Kim will begin her a fellowship with the Bronx Museum of the Arts AIM program.

She lives and practices her studio work in Harlem.
